IN LOVING MEMORY OF ANGELA L. SETTELL
Angie dynamically served as President of the Northeast Republican Women’s Club for approximately three years, faithfully leading the organization until her passing. During her time in leadership, Angie transformed the club in extraordinary ways. Through her wit, charm, and boundless enthusiasm, she grew membership from around 40 women to more than 200 — creating one of the most vibrant and engaged Republican women’s organizations in the region.
Angie had a rare gift for making every woman feel welcomed, valued, and inspired. She believed deeply in civic involvement, conservative principles, and the power of women working together to strengthen their communities. Her joyful spirit, sense of humor, and tireless dedication energized meetings, encouraged participation, and built lasting friendships.
Her legacy is not simply in the numbers she grew, but in the confidence she instilled, the leadership she cultivated, and the strong foundation she left behind. This scholarship honors her life of service, her love of country, and her unwavering commitment to empowering women to lead.

NRW Education Club Scholarships
$1,000.00 NRW Club Scholarship Awarded Per Year
The Northeast Republican Women’s Scholarship was established to honor and remember NRW Club members who made a significant impact on their communities as advocates, conservatives and patriots. The Northeast Republican Women’s Scholarship is awarded to a woman who demonstrates conservative values through a spirit of working towards educating herself and others in governmental affairs and participating in activities that support conservative candidates.
Additionally, this scholarship helps encourage and promote membership in the Northeast Republican Women's Club.

THE NORTHEAST REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S SCHOLARSHIP WAS ESTABLISHED TO HONOR AND REMEMBER NRW MEMBERS WHO MADE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THEIR COMMUNITIES AS ADVOCATES, CONSERVATIVES AND PATRIOTS INCLUDING:
EILEEN SIMON (April 14, 1928-July 20, 2022)
Eileen served as NRW President from 1981-1982 and 1988-1989. A New Orleans native, she was an outstanding student and athlete who graduated from LSU with a major in chemical engineering (the only woman in her engineering classes). After joining IBM, she was sent to Columbia University for graduate studies. She met Jim Simon and they were married for 65 years, proud parents of 6 children and 6 grandchildren. A natural leader Eileen was actively involved in many organizations. She was very active in the Republican Party, launching several campaigns at the local, state and federal level and was the Founder of The Pancake Breakfast in 1992. An annual event that continues to this day.
BARBARA HOLWADEL (October 30, 1957- September 26, 2023)
Barbara was a passionate activist who was always in the forefront of fighting for conservative values, unnecessary taxes and levies and spearheaded many campaigns. Barbara was elected as an Ohio Republican Party State Central Committee member and was actively serving in that role. Her activities exemplified her passion for public service solidifying her as a remarkable and influential member of the community. She and her husband Dave had 2 daughters (who she home schooled) and 3 grandchildren.
DAWSON SMITH (October 15, 1949- December 27, 2023)
Dawson had a successful career in the corporate world and carried much of his expertise into the political world. He was heavily involved in Anderson Township and Newtown Village—serving as a Republican Precinct Executive in Anderson and as the Ward Chair overseeing all 34 precincts in those 2 communities. He was a member of the Hamilton County Republican Party Executive Committee and because of his dedication to recruiting, training and volunteerism, the Dawson Smith Ward Chair Award was established by the Party. Dawson and his wife Tamara had 2 sons.
DAWSON SMITH (October 15, 1949- December 27, 2023)

Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a woman, 18 years of age or older.
- Must be a US citizen, registered and active Republican voter.
- Must reside in Hamilton, Warren, Clermont or Butler County.
- Applicant must be pursuing an Associate, Undergraduate or Graduate degree at an accredited college or university in Ohio.
- Applicant must demonstrate good citizenship, which may include participation in a variety of community service activities, volunteerism, etc.
- Applicant must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or equal to or above the school average.
- Preferred areas of study include social sciences; other areas of study are eligible and will be considered.
- The $1000 scholarship will be granted for a one-year period; previous scholarship recipients may reapply if grade point average and citizenship criteria described above are maintained. At the committee’s discretion, additional scholarships may be granted.
- Scholarship recipients who fail to maintain the requisite grade point average and citizenship criteria will be ineligible for future grants from the Scholarship Fund.
- Disbursements from the Scholarship Fund will be issued directly to the applicant’s educational institution.
- Winning students agree to attend an NRW meeting to be awarded the scholarship. Applicants must give written approval to the NRW Club to use their name and photo for NRW scholarship promotions.
Scholarship Portfolio Requirements:
- Transcript
- Letter of Recommendation (friend, neighbor, employer, co worker, teacher etc)
- Essay (1-2 pages)
- Three Minute Video
- Resume of Extracurricular Activities
- Attestation stating no Criminal Background Record
